Walter Kleber

Walter Kleber was missing and was found in 2018, along with 20 other soldiers, in the Protestant cemetery of 63-507. Pisarzowice ↗️, Poland (then Schreibersdorf near Gross Wartenberg in Silesia).
The completely neglected cemetery contained two individual graves and one mass grave.
The soldiers had been buried without gravestones on the grave, so nobody knew that 21 soldiers were resting there.
Three other soldiers from the grave are also known:
- Erich Edmund Alfred Kirschke, born December 25, 1926 in
Berlin – Neukölln↗️, Killed in action on January 23, 1945 in Pisarzowice. His family has not been found.
- Georg Punde, born January 11, 1926
Schwientochlowitz↗️, Killed in action on January 23, 1945 in Pisarzowice. His family has been found.
- Heinz Gauger, born January 8, 1921 in Karnitz, died January 23, 1945 in Pisarzowice. His family has been found.
The other soldiers are unknown because, according to a contemporary witness, their identification tags were removed by an old woman at the time.
I had offered to help Walter Kleber's brother find his brother, so I already knew Walter Kleber's family.
I received a lot of help from Dr. Urban, Mr. Giese and Dr. Czabański.
Dr. Czabański works for the Polish branch of the German War Graves Commission: Pomost. He and his enthusiastic team exhumed the soldiers in a highly professional manner.
On April 11, 2019, the 21 soldiers, along with 1000 other soldiers, forced laborers and citizens, were on the Stare Czarnowo military cemetery↗️ (Near Szczecin) reburied.
