Heinrich Berting
from Salz near Lauterbach
* 27 January 1897
4. May 1918 in Kemmel, Belgium
In the battlefields of the First World War at
Nantillois My friend Maarten Otte found Heinrich Berting's dog tag.
In 1915, German soldiers received new (double) identification tags.
The old dog tags were simply thrown away.
Therefore, it can happen that his dog tag was found near Nantillois, even though he fell at
Kemmel (Belgium).
Heinrich Berting's family was found but unfortunately had no interest.
I received a great deal of information regarding this soldier from Mrs. Andrea Meisel from Flieden, who did a tremendous amount of work.
She also gave me the pictures of the monument in Salz.
(see above)
She conducted an archival search for this soldier in the church records of Freiensteinau.
It's truly unbelievable what she's found.
She gave this soldier back his face .........
